Key rights as a domestic worker in Spain: You are entitled to a written contract, minimum wage, social security registration, paid rest periods, and holidays. Your employer must register you with the TGSS (Social Security). If they refuse — that is a red flag.

How to verify employers & agencies

  • Social Security verification
Check if an employer is registered with Social Security.
    sede.seg-social.gob.es
  • Company registry (Registro Mercantil)
Verify if an agency is a legally registered company in Spain.
    rmc.es
Always confirm identity and contract terms before starting work. Verification reduces risk — it does not eliminate it.

Scam prevention — non-negotiables

  • Never pay “processing fees” for a job offer. Legitimate jobs do not charge you.
  • Never hand over your passport or NIE to an employer or agency.
  • Verify the employer exists before accepting any offer.
  • If something feels rushed, secretive, or too good — pause and verify.
  • Use official portals for appointments. Avoid WhatsApp-only contacts.
